Chicago Man Allegedly Was Carrying Stolen TV While Riding His Bike

Also, victim of identity theft offers up credit card information in hopes of winning $650,000, suspect attempts to acquire 120 hydrocodone pills and wedding cash stolen at Wilder Mansion.

Theft Arrests

Raul Flores, 29, 4822 W. Belle Plaine Ave., Chicago, was arrested and charged with theft after police saw him riding on a bicycle and carrying a TV at York and Fremont 12:43 p.m. Nov. 5. Police said he gave conflicting stories about where he was going and the origin of the TV. Police said they could not confirm Flores's identity, so he was taken to the police station, where he allegedly told police that the TV was indeed stolen and that he had purchased it from an acquaintance for $30.

Shirley D. Campbell, 54, 1548 Robin Ave., Melrose Park, was arrested and charged with retail theft after she allegedly took cosmetics, clothing and Glade plug-ins totaling $36.22 from Kmart, 265 S. Route 83, at 5 p.m. Nov. 9.

Miguel Gonzalez, 47, 1616 N. 15th Ave., Melrose Park, was arrested and charged with retail theft at Kohl's, 303 S. Route 83, at 10:35 a.m. Nov. 15.

A male juvenile was arrested and charged with retail theft and possession of alcohol by a minor after he allegedly attempted to remove a 24-pack of Heineken and two bottles of Captain Morgan rum from Jewel, 153 Schiller, at 7:08 p.m. Nov. 15. He was released on bond to his father.

Hali T. Estrada, 25, 475 S. Argyle Ave. Apt. 1B, Elmhurst, was arrested at Kohl's, 303 S. Route 83, and charged with retail theft after she allegedly put two bracelets on her wrist, made a separate purchase and exited the store at 5:02 p.m. Nov. 16. She was released on bond.

Alfa Torres, 38, 528 W. Division Apt. 4, Villa Park, was arrested and charged with retail theft after she allegedly took $78.39 worth of merchandise from Kohl's, 303 S. Route 83, at 8:28 p.m. Nov. 16. She was released on bond.

Patrick M. Hackett, 18, 318 Buckingham Court, Lombard, was arrested and charged with retail theft at Kohl's, 303 S. Route 83, after he allegedly removed an item from its packaging and attempted to leave the store at 4:21 p.m. Nov. 17. He was released on bond.

Identity Theft

A resident of the 700 block of South Fairfield Avenue told police that someone used his MasterCard twice, charging $9,804.60 and $765.55, between Oct. 31 and Nov. 1. He said he received a letter in the mail from Publisher's Clearing House and he called the number on the letter in hopes of winning $650,000. He ended up offering several of his credit card numbers to the person on the phone. The purchases were made from Grill Town Enterprise out of Canada.

Fraud

Armani Skulark, 21, 114 S. 19th Ave., Maywood, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor attempted possession of a counterfeit credit card at Charter One Bank, 100 N. Addison, at 12:17 p.m. Nov. 16. A bank teller told police Skulark attempted to obtain a cash advance on a credit card. When he was denied, he allegedly ran out of the bank. He was released on bond.

A resident of the 600 block of West North Avenue told police someone got hold of her Fifth Third Bank debit card and made unauthorized charges totaling $450 at Delta Sonic, McDonald's and Old Havana Cigar Shop, all in Elmhurst.

Someone opened a fraudulent Verizon Wireless account using the business information of Advent Systems, 435 W. Fullerton, between Nov. 15 and 21. Eleven phones were ordered online, but the order was canceled by the victim before shipment.

Forgery

Someone attempted to refill a prescription for 120 hydrocodone at CVS Pharmacy, 110 W. North Ave., at 3:15 p.m. Nov. 17. The suspect left the pharmacy without the prescription.

Attempted Theft

The rear door at York Road Mart, 641 N. York Road, was found to be pried and the lock cut at 4:47 p.m. Nov. 17. Missing was 8 1/2 cases of cigarettes.

Theft

A generator technician for Patten Power System, 615 W. Lake St., told police the power cables leading to two generators were cut and and 11 730-amp cables were taken between 3 p.m. Nov. 5 and 6:45 a.m. Nov. 6.

A Mac laptop worth $1,600 and an HP laptop worth $500 were taken from a vehicle parked on the 600 block of West North Avenue between 7:30 and 10:20 p.m. Nov. 6. The front passenger window was smashed.

Several packs of cigarettes were removed from a vehicle parked on the 700 block of North Oaklawn between 8:30 a.m. Nov. 1 and 5 p.m. Nov. 4. Loss is $120.

Someone attempted to break into a Village of Oak Brook plow truck by stripping the steering column while the vehicle was parked on the 600 block of West Lake Street between 10 a.m. Nov. 7 and 10 a.m. Nov. 8. The complainant also said wires and electrical items were taken from their facility and he believes the two incidents are related. Total loss is about $500.

Two men reportedly purchased a flower arrangement with a counterfeit $100 bill at Carousel Flower Shop, 527 S. York, at 12:50 p.m. Nov. 9. One of the offenders is described as black, 6 feet tall, 300 pounds with long braided hair wearing a stained white T-shirt. The other described as 5 feet, 8 inches tall, thin, with slicked-back hair wearing all black and looking like "Snoop Dogg." They left the store in an unknown vehicle in an unknown direction.

A 15-inch Hitachi chop saw and a 6500 red Honda generator were taken from a business on the 900 block of South Riverside at 9 p.m. Nov. 9.

Various tools worth about $100 were taken from a work van at Suburban Cleaning Systems, 492 W. Wrightwood, between 10 p.m. Nov. 13 and 1 a.m. Nov. 14. 

An Apple iPhone 5 worth $599 was stolen from the gym at the YMCA, 211 W. First St., at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 16. 

Equipment totaling more than $500 was stolen from a van during three separate occasions between 9 p.m. Nov. 15 and 3:45 p.m. Nov. 16. The van was parked on the 500 block of West Grand Avenue.

A small wooden chair worth $12 was removed from an area near the front door on the 200 block of West First St. between 7 p.m. Nov. 17 and 11 a.m. Nov. 18.

A female attempted to steal a shopping cart full of items from Walgreen's, 160 E. Palmer, at 2 p.m. Nov. 18. She fled southbound on Palmer Drive in a gray car when the manager confronted her.

A male suspect entered Kohl's, 303 S. Route 83, at 9:48 p.m. Nov. 19, changed his shirt and jacket and walked out. He came back and grabbed several tablets, but left them in the store. He came back a third time and the store manager called 911. The suspect was issued a no-trespass order and released.

A vehicle was stolen from Elmhurst Toyota, 440 W. Lake St., between 3 p.m. Nov. 5 and 3:19 p.m. Nov. 21.

A driver for Universal Taxi told police she picked up a rider in Bensenville and took him to Elmhurst Memorial Hospital at 9:45 a.m. Nov. 21. The offender and the driver agreed she would wait for him with the meter running. She waited about an hour and the suspect never returned, so she went to pick up another fare at O'Hare Airport. While driving back she saw the suspect walking northbound on Route 83, but she was unable to locate him once she approached the area. Total loss in fare was $76.60.

Someone stole an envelope containing $1,000 in cash during a wedding at Wilder Mansion, 211 Prospect Ave., sometime before 11 p.m. Sept. 21.

A staple gun, nail gun and a 25-gallon compressor were taken from a home on the 200 block of East Wilson Avenue between 6 p.m. Nov. 20 and 8:05 a.m. Nov. 22.
