Chicago Man Acquitted in Elmhurst Tobacco Store Heist

700 cartons of cigarettes were taken in the May 2012 robbery.

A Chicago man accused of robbing an Elmhurst store was found not guilty Thursday.

Claiborne Robertson, 44, and an accomplice disguised themselves as inspectors to steal more than 700 cartons of cigarettes, but his attorney argued that the clerk could not be considered a victim because he was in on heist, reports the Chicago Tribune.

A DuPage County jury returned with an acquittal for Robertson.
