Change in Christmas Program Leads to Threatening Letter

Also, Elmhurst police report theft of a car, a van and a semi, among other things.

Threatening Letter
An employee of Pythagoras Childrens Academy, 893 N. Church Road, said she found a threatening letter on her desk when she came to school at 8:15 a.m. Oct. 6. She told police many parents were upset that the School Board changed the time of the Christmas program.

Recovered Vehicle
An Infiniti G35 that had been stolen out of Arlington Heights on Sept. 30 turned up on the 200 block of Larch Street. Police patrolling the area at 4:22 a.m. Oct. 7 discovered the vehicle. The resident said it had been parked at the curb since the previous Saturday.

Burglary
Someone kicked in the door of a home on the 200 block of East St. Charles Road between 3 and 5:35 p.m. Sept. 30. No report of loss was available.

Someone kicked in the front door of a home on the 600 block of Rex between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Oct. 7. Several pieces of jewelry, $200 in cash, two jars of coins and an Intelect Tens Unit muscle stimulator were taken.

Theft
Someone removed an iPod from a backpack that was left on a bench in the locker room at York High School, 355 W. St. Charles Road, between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. Sept. 5. The report was filed Sept. 30.

Someone attempted to gain entry into a storage unit on the 200 block of West Lake Street at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 1. Employees did not recognize the offenders.

Someone stole a leaf blower from a landscape truck at Spring Hill Suites, 410 W. Lake St., at 2:38 p.m. Oct. 1.

Someone stole a Freightliner semi tractor from the rear of a business at 760 N. Industrial Drive between 8 p.m. Sept. 30 and 9:30 a.m. Oct. 1.

Someone entered an unlocked vehicle on the 100 block of Pine between 3 a.m. Sept. 27 and noon Sept. 29 and took a few dollars and $100 worth of car wash coupons.

Someone took a black computer case and HP computer from the back seat of a vehicle parked in a driveway of a home on the 900 block of South Bryan between 9:30 p.m. Oct. 3 and 6 a.m. Oct. 4. Several credit cards, glasses, a pen and planner, headphones and two checkbooks also were taken.

A man came into the police station at noon Oct. 3 to report that his van was stolen in Chicago and recovered the same day in Cicero. When he got it back, all of his power tools were missing. His tools, two saws and a multi-tool, were listed for sale on Craigslist from a possible Elmhurst location. The victim could not provide the serial numbers.

A resident of the 400 block of South Mitchell Street posted an ad on Craigsllist in an attempt to sell a bed between Oct. 3 and 4. She was contacted by the suspect, who offered to buy the bed for $250. The suspect said she would send a check for $2,385, and told the victim to cash the check, keep $250, then send the remaining amount back to the suspect. The check was send overnight by FedEx. An investigation is pending.

Someone stole a red and gray Giant 26-inch men's mountain bike worth $150 from the bike rack at Elmhurst Public Library, 125 S. Prospect Ave., at 4 p.m. Oct. 3. The bike was unlocked.

A resident of the 400 block of West Commonwealth received a credit card in the mail from Newegg.com. He did not apply for the card and threw it out. About a month later, he received a statement from the company indicating two purchases were made on Aug. 31 in the amounts of $1,819.01 and $1,929.01.

Four male customers at Fitz's Pub, 172 N. Addison, rang up a $53 food and beer tab then left without paying at 3:38 p.m. Oct. 5. Police retrieved surveillance video to identify the offenders.

Someone smashed the driver side window of a vehicle parked on the 600 block of West North Avenue between 5:01 and 5:55 a.m. Oct. 6 and removed a jacket and a purse containing $50, a drivers license, checkbook, debit cards, birth certificate and other papers. Damage to the window is estimated at $200.

Someone took two white angel ornaments worth $50 from the front yard of a home on the 800 block of South Spring Road between Oct. 1 and noon Oct. 7.

Three women took about $200 in cosmetics from CVS Pharmacy, 110 W. North Ave., at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 7.

Someone took an unlocked BMX bike from the 100 block of Schiller at 6:43 p.m. Oct. 7. A male was last seen on the bike headed westbound on Schiller.

Someone took a gray Pantech Crossover phone worth $350 from AT&T, 291 N. York Road, at 7:24 p.m. Oct. 7. An employee told police he suspects a man and women who were looking at the phone while their five children were running around the store, taking phones off the displays, taking banners down and distracting the employees.

Someone took a U.S. flag worth $25 from a home on the 200 block of South Grace Street between 10:30 p.m. Oct. 7 and 7:30 a.m. Oct. 8.

Someone attempted to pry open the door of a vehicle parked on the 200 block of Pick Street between 3 and 7 a.m. Oct. 7.

Someone took a Vietnam Veterans' steel collection box that was located in the lot next to Marriott, North Avenue and Route 83, on Sept. 22. The box is worth about $800.

Someone took a wallet from a table at Buffalo Wild Wings, 149 N. York St., at 11 p.m. Oct. 7. The wallet contained a drivers license, social security card, school ID, debit card and CTA pass.

Someone took a locked chrome Haro bike from the fence at the football field at York High School, 355 W. St. Charles Road, between 7:30 and 10:30 p.m Oct. 7.

Someone took a purse that was left on a chair at 683 N. York St. at 6:31 p.m. Oct. 8. The offenders ran out of the store and left the area in a red, four-door vehicle.

Someone took a Raleigh Mojave mountain bike from the front porch of a home on the 200 block of South Fair Street between 3:30 and 4:30 a.m. Oct. 9. The bike was recovered at Elmhurst College and returned to its owner.

Someone took a Visitation Vikings law sign from the front yard of a home on the 100 block of Sunnyside between 6 and 9 a.m. Oct. 9. Loss is estimated at $15.
