Cell Phones Stolen from York Swim Area Are Later Discovered in Lombard

Phones were stolen while girls attended swim practice.

A rash of thefts from lockers in the swimming area at York High School, 355 W. St. Charles Road, was reported last week.

Four students reported items were taken from their lockers while they were in swim practice between 3:15 and 5:15 p.m. Sept. 2.

One student lost a navy blue wallet containing a York ID card, a YMCA ID, an Elmhurst Public Library card, $5 and a $100 iPod. Another student reported her cell phone, and credit and debit cards were stolen. A black Coach wristlet, Samsung cell phone, house key and $10 were taken from third victim, and a $100 Virgin Mobile cell phone was taken from another student.

The sister of one of the victims received a call Sept. 5 from a man stating he found a cell phone on the side of the road. The man, who said he was homeless, offered to meet the girl in Lombard to return it to her. Police went to the designated location to meet the man, and he showed them where he found the phone.

While they were in the area, police located three other cell phones on the ground.
