Update: One Person Injured in Crash at South Elmhurst Jewel

Update 11 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4: 

The car that hit a pole in front of Jewel-Osco in South Elmhurst Saturday afternoon was involved in a car-versus-car accident in the parking lot prior to hitting the barrier, Elmhurst Police Chief Michael Ruth said.

"One of the cars then struck a pole in front of the Jewel," Ruth said. "A 68-year-old female was transported to Elmhurst Memorial Hospital with minor injuries."

Original store, posted at 4 p.m. Saturday:

At about 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, a gray sedan crashed into a barrier at the front door of Jewel-Osco, 944 S. York Road.

A witness at the scene, David Hoy, said there were injuries, but that has not yet been confirmed by Elmhurst police. Hoy said the vehicle also hit the stop sign at the northwest corner of the store.
