Burglary Suspects Crash Car; Police Apprehend One, Two Flee on Foot

Witness provided key information.

According to breaking reports over the Elmhurst police radio, three men broke into a house on the 500 block of North Michigan Street Tuesday afternoon a little before 2 p.m.

A neighbor told police she saw the three men pull into the driveway and then enter the home. As they were leaving, the witness said the suspects knew they had been seen.

The men fled the scene in a silver Pontiac, and then crashed into another car on First Street near Interstate 294. A child in the car that was hit was reportedly injured and an ambulance was called to take the victim to the hospital.

One of the suspects was apprehended by police at the scene of the crash, the other two fled on foot, jumping over a residential fence. As of 2:20 p.m., police were still searching for them. The suspect car, which is not driveable, is being examined for clues and stolen property.

It is unknown exactly what was taken from the home on Michigan, but it appears to be mainly jewelry and smaller items. The homeowners were called and they arrived on the scene a little after 2 p.m.

More information will be provided as it becomes available.
