Burglary and Theft Reported in Elmhurst, and Not All of the Suspects Got Away

Jewelry, cookies, makeup, computer and phones among items stolen Oct. 19-31.

Residential Burglary

Someone broke into a home on the 300 block of East Crescent between 2:30 and 4:25 p.m. Oct. 28. The offender entered the home through a back door and ransacked three bedrooms. Taken was about $6,000 in jewelry.

Theft Arrests

Two 14-year-old girls were taken to the police station after they were seen on security video eating cookies at Dominick's, 215 S. Route 83, at 2:53 p.m. Oct. 21. The girls did not pay for the $4 package of cookies. They also were truant from school. They were released to their parents.

Two 17-year-old boys were arrested and charged with retail theft, possession of alcohol by a minor and possession of drug paraphernalia after they allegedly attempted to steal a bottle of vodka from Dominick's, 215 S. Route 83, at 8:19 p.m. Oct. 22. They dropped the bottle and fled on foot but were caught and taken into custody.

Meghan Oshea, 21, 1051 S. Fairview, Lombard, was arrested and charged with retail theft after she allegedly removed several makeup products and two men's T-shirts worth a total of $73.48 from Kohl's, 303 S. Route 83, at 7:28 p.m. Oct. 26. She was released on I-bond.

Kimberly Neale, 28, 905 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park, was arrested and charged with retail theft after she allegedly took several cosmetic and clothing items worth $212.29 from Kohl's, 303 S. Route 83, at 5:14 p.m. Oct. 27. She was released on bond.

Margaret Dunne, 18, 207 Fair St., Elmhurst, was arrested and charged with retail theft after allegedly taking $62.91 worth of cosmetics from Kmart, 265 S. Route 83, at 5:36 p.m. Oct. 27. She was released on I-bond.

Bridget Osburn, 36, 1437 Atwood, Berkeley, was arrested and charged with retail theft at Kmart, 265 S. Route 83, after she allegedly attempted to take $273 in merchandise at 2:42 p.m. Oct. 28. She was released on bond.

A student at York High School, 355 W. St. Charles Road, was suspended after it was determined she had taken a cell phone from a purse at the school between 10:37 and 10:59 a.m. Oct. 19. The phone was returned to the victim, but all of the contacts had been erased and the sim card destroyed.

Someone removed an iPhone from a locker in the boys locker room at York High School between 2:21 and 3:11 p.m. Oct. 18.

Someone broke the passenger side rear door of a vehicle parked on the 300 block of North Route 83 between 12:30 and 9:55 a.m. Oct. 22 and took a DVD player, black camera bag, a camera and a pair of jeans. Loss is estimated at $460 and damage at $250.

Someone used the personal information of a resident on the 100 block of South Kenmore to open a Comcast account on Sept. 1.

Someone charged $250 on the credit card of a resident on the 500 block of Cedar Avenue on Oct. 7. The fraudulent purchase was a gift card at Newegg.com.

Someone broke the rear passenger window on a truck belonging to Etna Supply out of Grand Rapids, Mich., while the truck was parked at 624 N. York Road between 10:30 p.m. Oct. 24 and 7:45 a.m. Oct. 25. A black laptop computer worth $500 and a computer case were taken from the front seat.

Someone removed a black iPod Classic from a back pack at York High School, 355 W. St. Charles Road, while the victim was at cross country practice between 3:20 and 7 p.m. Oct. 25. Loss is estimated at $300.

Someone removed a wallet from a purse at Panera Bread, 108 W. North Ave., between noon and 1:15 p.m. Oct. 26. The victim recalled being bumped while getting her soda but didn't think anything of it until American Express sent her an e-mail alert that said $412.62 was charged to her card at the Highland Park CVS.

Someone attempted to take a 32-inch television from Kmart, 265 S. Route 83, at 5:01 p.m. Oct. 28. The suspect left the TV in the parking lot and fled.

Someone took a $670 cell phone from a student at Immaculate Conception School, 217 S. Cottage Hill, at 2:50 p.m. Oct. 25.

Someone removed a bi-fold wallet containing credit cards and a drivers license from an unlocked vehicle parked on the 400 block of Rex between 1 p.m. Oct. 29 and 11:30 a.m. Oct. 30.

Someone removed a cell phone and wallet from an unlocked vehicle parked on the 100 block of Clinton between 4 and 9:59 p.m. Oct. 31. The wallet contained credit cards, drivers license, insurance and pension cards. The offender attempted to use the stolen credit cards at Harris Bank, 115 W. Third St., at about 10 p.m. but was unsuccessful.
