Connell Brother Takes Plea Agreement in Spring Inn Incident and Will Serve 90 Days in County Jail

Third family member pleads guilty to lesser charge, closing the book on nearly year-old case.

A third Elmhurst man has pleaded guilty to his role in a 552 S. Spring Road.

Steven Connell was scheduled to stand trial Tuesday, Jan. 24, on an aggravated battery charge; authorities had said Connell punched, pushed and jumped on an officer. But he reached an agreement with prosecutors that had him plead guilty to a misdemeanor count of attempted aggravated battery.

Connell was sentenced to two years probation and 90 days in DuPage County Jail, and he must attend anger management classes and participate in the Sheriff's Work Alternative Program.

Judge George Bakalis agreed to let Connell, who is attending college, surrender to the jail in May after the school year ends.

On Monday, Connell's brother, Bryan Connell, and his father, Brian Connell, against an Elmhurst police officer related to the same incident. The charge stated they made "physical contact of an insulting and provoking nature." They originally were charged with battery and resisting a peace officer.

They were sentenced to court supervision for one year.
