Boy Scout Trailer, Other Vehicles Sustain Thousands of Dollars in Damage from Vandalism

Property Damage

Someone scratched obscenities into a gray trailer belonging to a Boy Scout Troop. The trailer was parked in a lot at Christ United Methodist Church, 920 S. Swain, between 2 p.m. Dec. 28 and 2:14 p.m. Dec. 31. Damage is estaimated at $400.

Someone removed a door and smashed a window of a vehicle on the lot at Ed Napleton Acura, 745 Lake St., between noon Dec. 30 and 6:50 a.m. Dec. 31. Damage is estimated at $5,000.

Someone cut the locks on the back doors of two trucks parked in a lot at 451 W. Fullerton between 5 p.m. Dec. 28 and 7:40 a.m. Jan. 2. Nothing was taken, but damage is estimated at $280. At 8:23 a.m. the same day, police responded to another report of damage at 483 W. Fullerton. Someone pulled the driver side lock of a truck and left it hanging out of the door, and the service door between the driver's cabin and the back of the truck was knocked down. Nothing was reported missing, but damage is estimated at $600.

Three ground light fixtures worth $250 each were damaged between 12:01 a.m. Dec. 15 and 9:45 p.m. Dec. 22 at Elmhurst Presbyterian Church, 367 Spring Road.

Retail Theft Arrest

Laura A. Resendez, 51, 217 W. Sunset Drive, Lakemoor, was arrested and charged with felony retail theft after she was allegedly seen taking two bottles of wine worth $117 from Dominick's, 215 S. Route 83, at 5:31 p.m. Jan. 3. She was taken to DuPage County Jail.

Theft

A GPS, iPod and Palm Pilot were taken from an unlocked truck parked on the 800 block of Kent between 5 p.m. Dec. 30 and 8 a.m. Dec. 31. Loss is estimated at $550.

An iPhone 4 worth $250 was discovered missing from a home on the 200 block of West First Street after a party at 2:50 a.m. Jan. 1.

Identity Theft

A resident of the 200 block of East Butterfield reported that someone made five unauthorized debits of $100 each on her Chase debit card Dec. 19. Detectives are working on several other related cases, police said.
