Attorney for Woman in 'Excessive Force' Settlement Provides More Details

TribLocal is reporting the settlement does not reflect a pattern of abuse by Elmhurst police.

More details about the $25,000 settlement between the City of Elmhurst and a are being reported by TribLocal.

The attorney for Linda S. Wojat of Homer Glen said the incident does not reflect a pattern of abuse by police. Attorney Shehnanz Mansuri said Officer Arthur Ciszewski slapped Wojat after she "sneezed on him" during an arrest for DUI on April 29.

"He accused her of spitting on him and charged her with battery," Mansuri said.

That's a very expensive slap on the face to the Elmhurst taxpayers PR and financially. I'm highy certain that "slap" ought be in the world book of records for the most costly slap. Was the cop terminated? Silly me, union guy.

I'd love to hear a reaction from "The Smith" and "Dave R", who said in the comments section of the earlier Patch story that the arrestee "start(ed) an incident" and "spit on the officer". I'm also wondering if the processing of arrestees is video taped in Elmhurst, and if that video tape is available for the public to see?

I'd be happy to clarify for you. The article states, "...after she sneezed on him." Which means her actions occurred before the officers. The initial action is the one that started the incident. This in no way means a justification of the the actions in the article. I would also be interested in viewing a tape if it exists.
