Attempted Child Abduction in Addison Prompts an Alert by Elmhurst Police

Man tried to lure boy into a van.

The Elmhurst Police Department and Elmhurst Unit District 205 have released an alert to families regarding an attempted child abduction Tuesday, Jan. 31, in Addison.

An elementary school student was walking eastbound on Lorraine near Ardmore School, 644 S. Ardmore Ave., on his way home from school between 3:20 and 3:40 p.m. He was approached by a balding white man with no facial hair driving a black SUV. The man tried to lure him into his vehicle by asking if he needed a ride.

The student refused and went directly home. He was unable to determine an approximate age of the suspect; the Addison Police are investigating.

Elmhurst police remind parents to tell their children to:

  • walk to and from school in groups of two or more
  • never talk to strangers
  • stay away from unknown vehicles
  • report any suspicious incidents to police, school staff or parents
