Additional Police Officers Will Be On the Streets Through This Weekend

Don't drive if your Cinco de Mayo celebration includes drinking.

Elmhurst police are in the middle of a DUI enforcement campaign that continues through Sunday, May 6. Additional officers will be on the patrol through this weekend looking for impaired drivers and seat belt violators during all hours, but they will be particularly focused on the hours between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m., which is the deadliest time frame on Illinois roads, according to a press release from the department.

The additional enforcement is made possible by a yearlong grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation. The goal is to save lives by reducing fatal and serious injury crashes. This enforcement period began April 27.

Motorists are encouraged to drive safely and buckle up. Anyone planning on drinking in celebration of Cinco de Mayo, or any other event, should make alternate driving arrangements. Anyone who spots an intoxicated driver is encouraged to contact police.
