UPDATE: Police Release Name of Man Who Suffered Fatal Heart Attack While Driving

Jerry Rochford was the sole caretaker of his 16-year-old grandson, Shaun Marshall. Donations are being collected to help Shaun.

UPDATE Dec. 26, 4 p.m.: 

Police have released the name of the man who suffered a fatal heart attack while driving in Elmhurst last week.

Jerry W. Rochford, 59, of 136 N. Geneva Ave. in Elmhurst, was driving a 1995 Plymouth Voyager on the 100 block of North Michigan when he lost consciousness Dec. 20. He was pronounced dead at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital at 6:01 p.m. that evening, police said.

Rochford was the sole caretaker of his grandson, 16-year-old Shaun Marshall. A GoFundME site has been set up for anyone who would like to make a donation to help Shaun.

A 59-year-old Elmhurst man suffered a fatal heart attack while driving on the 100 block of North Michigan last week, Elmhurst police Chief Michael Ruth said.

The man reportedly was driving at around 3 p.m. Dec. 20 when he suffered the attack. Witnesses saw the vehicle strike a curb and stop against a shrub. The man appeared to witnesses to be passed out in the vehicle, police said.

He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police have not released the man's name.
