2 Men & 1 Dog Taken Into Custody in Connection With Alleged Kmart Shoplifting

The men were released on bond but the dog was stuck in an animal shelter.

Two men caught shoplifting from the Elmhurst Kmart were allowed to go on bond but their dog was stuck in an animal shelter, police said.

John Maddaleni, 45, and David Curtis, 25, both of Wheaton were arrested at the Route 83 superstore shortly before 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.

An officer sent to the Kmart to investigate a "retail theft in progress" found "two male subjects (who) were putting items into a bag with a dog inside the bag also," police said.

The men "failed to pay for their items (totaling $109.36) and were arrested, taken to the station, processed and released on bond. (The) dog was transported to the animal shelter."
