14 Karat Gold Brooch Boosted in Elmhurst Break-in

That's a lot of karats.

Crooks broke into a Chandler Avenue home and stole a 14-karat gold brooch, police said.

The residents had only been gone about two hours but when they returned home shortly after 3:30 p.m. Sunday found the side door was broken and hanging open, police said.

An officer "cleared the home and conducted neighborhood interviews" but came up with nothing, police said.

A resident of the burglarized home still had to check on what might have been missing, police said, but was sure the brooch was gone.
