Letter: Kirchenberg is the Best Choice for DuPage Forest District Board

Don Kirchenberg has shown his dedication to preserving open space time and time again.

I am supporting Don Kirchenberg for DuPage Forest Preserve commissioner in District 2 because he has been working hard for decades to help protect our open space including the trees, trails and trail users.

He served as a volunteer as president of the Illinois Prairie Path not-for-profit corporation for over seven years and on the organization's board of directors for nine. He is also the ongoing voluntary chairman of the Friends of the Great Western Trails. He founded the Friends of the GWTs group and has been leading it for 12 years to the benefit of the trails, trail users and surrounding communities.

In addition he lead the fight for the preservation of over 8 acres of unique forest in DuPage County. This property was saved from a proposed development of 46 town homes with a new street crossing at Whittier on the Illinois Prairie Path in Glen Ellyn. This land is now the Glacial Ridge Forest Preserve of DuPage County. It is a unique and some say important part of DuPage County because it was never developed and offers groupings of trees that they do not even have at the Morton Arboretum.

Here is a news story from Chicago Wilderness about this special and very successful effort. Check the report on the success of Kirchenberg's leadership in saving this parcel of land. We know he will continue to work hard and take less money doing it.

We encourage you to vote on Nov. 6 for Don Kirchenberg for DuPage Forest Preserve commissioner, District 2.

Bill Angel said Mike Madigan is supporting Don Kirchenberg? Don has been an independent Democrat for many years. Don lived in Glendale Heights for over 20 years before moving to Downers Grove so I don't know how that is "moving around a lot." Bill angel should check his facts so your baseless charges can be kind of credible.

For the record, as the chair of the committee that slated Kirchenberg to run in District 2, I can say authoritatively that Madigan had absolutely nothing to do with it. It's sad when Republicans have no ideas of their own and have to resort to using people like Madigan as bogeymen in order to frighten voters.

Don Kirchenberg's leadership has done more the DuPage Forest Preserves than anyone - in or out of elected office. As an elected official, he will an opportunity to expand what he has started. Vote for Don Kirchenberg!

Kirchenberg attends more meetings than Cantore. Apparently Commissioner Joe Cantore has figured out that not only does he not have to speak at meetings and get paid $53,5000 for a part-time job (for 1,000 hours maybe) that includes full time benefits, a taxpayer supported pension, a cell phone and a new laptop computer with 24 hour computer support he gets paid all this whether or not he attends any meetings. We need a new a nd better Forest Preserve Commissioner serving Dist. 2.
