Hey Mom and Dad, How Much TV Do You Allow Your Children To Watch?

Parents, Patch wants to hear from you on the questions that get families talking.

Welcome to "Hey, Mom and Dad"—a weekly feature in which we ask our Facebook fans to share their views on parenting. Every week, we get the conversation started by taking a look back at a question we asked parents the week before on Patch Facebook pages from around the area.

In the new year, many parents have resolved to promote a more active lifestyle for their children, spending less time in the house and more time outside playing with friends. But how do you get your kids unglued from the TV screen? That brings us to this week's question.

Do you put any limits on your child's time in front of the TV screen? How much TV is too much for a kid?

Take a look at what people had to say and join the conversation in the comments section.

Michelle Angela Vasquez-Sottile: Movie Night Monday with the family is all the television during the week, unless there is a special or something that has been requested. Then 2 hours on the weekends, however they choose to use the time is up to them. The schedule is slightly altered during school breaks but not by too much. — Geneva Patch Facebook

Tracy Ryder: I never thought of giving her a limit only because she doesn't watch a lot of it by her own choice. She's 7. — St. Charles Patch Facebook

Jennifer Allan Robateau: No TV on school days. This includes video games. — Naperville Patch Facebook

Jill Kauffman Holmes: This year we have decided no tv during the week days. Recently, my child can earn 30 minutes of a show for 30 minutes of math. That's the limit. Weekends tv is monitored. So far, she doesn't seem to mind. Now me on the other hand, different story! — Geneva Patch Facebook

Sara Arlene 'Leavitt' Turner: 5 and 9 yr old. I keep it to an hr at most per day. But many days they do not watch tv at all! Proud they have great imaginations and would rather play with toys and read books!! — St. Charles Patch Facebook
