Obituary: Stella A. Cuthbert of Elmhurst

Stella Jean Adams Cuthbert (nee Adinamis) of Elmhurst, and Gilbert, Arizona. Wife of the late Henry R. Cuthbert. Cherished mother of Phillip (Amy) Cuthbert and Ellen (Troy) Fluegel. Beloved grandmother of Zoe and Nicholas Fluegel and Katelyn and Alexander Cuthbert. Devoted daughter of the late Peter and Helen Adinamis. Dear sister of Mary (the late Gordon) Borchardt and the late George P. (Susan) and the late Anastasia Adinamis. Niece of the late Katherine Zeritis. Fond aunt of Linda (Bryan) Kelley, Karen (Bryan) Doan, Dr. Ann Adinamis (the late Alan) Impicciche, Carol Adinamis (Jeff) Saunders, Susan Adinamis (Russell) Michael, Russell P. Veldenz and Dr. Henry (Kimberly) Veldenz and the late John Bernady. Cousin of John (Voula) Vites and Michael (Effie) Nichols.

Stella was a retired attorney and member of the American, Illinois, Chicago, Women’s and Hellenic Bar Associations for over 50 years; former Illinois commissioner of unemployment insurance; former assistant state’s attorney of Cook County; past president of the Hellenic Bar Association, the Greek Women’s University Club and the Elmhurst Symphony Auxiliary.

She received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in classical languages from Northwestern University and a juris doctorate degree from the John Marshall Law School, where she received an Alumni Distinguished Service Award. She also received the Silver Measure Award for Distinguished Service to the Elmhurst Symphony Association and the American Association of University Women’s Educational Honoree Award.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 17, at Ahlgrim Funeral Home, 567 S. Spring Road. Family and friends will meet Friday morning at Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church, 2501 S. Wolf Road in Westchester, for a 10 a.m. funeral service. Interment Elmwood Cemetery in River Grove.
