Obituary: Clifford E Dyer Jr., 95, of Elmhurst

Visitation is Wednesday, funeral Mass is Thursday in Elmhurst.

Clifford E. Dyer Jr., 95, of Elmhurst, passed away peacefully at home.

Mr. Dyer is a native of De Soto, Wisc.; alumnus, University of Illinois Class of 1940 with a degree in electrical engineering; and a proud employee of Commonwealth Edison for more than 30 years.

Mr. Dyer was the beloved husband of Mary Evelyn (nee Burke) for almost 70 years, during which time life took them from Illinois to Pennsylvania, back to Illinois, and to Michigan, Indiana and Iowa before returning home to Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Elizabeth (nee Fagan); and his sister, Etta Janc.

He is survived by his children, Thomas (Mary Ann), David (Debra Ann), and Diane (James) Byrne; his grandchildren, Michael, Jeffrey (Laurie Parish), Barbara (Lamine) Dyer-Diagne, David Jr., and Dr. Christianne (Jason) Brown; his great-grandchildren, Josephine and Alexandra Brown; and his nieces, nephews and friends.

Clifford had many interests including studying financial markets, reading western novels traveling and gardening—growing everything from asparagus to zucchini, but especially strawberries and rhubarb. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him and is recognized as a member of the greatest generation.  

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, and from 8 until 9 a.m. Thursday, April 18, at Gibbons Funeral Home, 134 South York Road, Elmhurst.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 132 Arthur, Elmhurst.  Interment to follow on Friday, April 19, at Calvary Cemetery in Freeport.
