Dist. 205 Staff Mourn Loss of Former Band Director, Principal's Mom, Teacher's Dad, Office Worker

Four with connections to District 205 passed away within a few days of one another.

It has been a sad week for staff members and their families at Elmhurst Unit District 205, who have lost a former band director, an office employee, the mother of a retired principal and the father of a third-grade teacher.

E. Clifford Marquardt, 87, father of Barb Clancy, third-grade teacher at Lincoln School, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 30.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Interment is private.

In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the ALS Association, in honor of Mr. Marquardt's son, Tom.

On Monday, Jan. 28, Joan (Jovanka) Jovanovich (nee Zuzuly, aka Cuculjevic), passed away. Jovanovich, 79, lived with her family in Elmhurst since 1964 and was retired from the payroll department for Elmhurst Unit District 205. She also was past president of SRO parent support group at York High School.

Visitation for Mrs. Jovanovich will be held from 2 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 3, at Tezak's Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet. A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 4, at St. George Serbian Orthodox Church on Stryker Avenue in Joliet. Interment will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Joliet.

On Saturday, Jan. 26, former longtime Churchville Band Director Bob Pettengill died in Surprize, Az. Mr. Pettengill, 68, was band director at Churchville from 1980-2004.

Also on Saturday, Jan. 26, the mother of retired Lincoln Principal Mary Ann Kalis passed away. Jane Castelli (nee Flanagan) was 92 and a longtime resident of Elmhurst.

Family and friends of Lillian F. Euler (nee Reich), 88, a longtime resident of Elmhurst, will celebrate her life on Friday, Feb. 1.

Mrs. Euler died Monday, Jan. 28. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at Pedersen-Ryberg Mortuary, 435 N. York Road in Elmhurst. A funeral will follow. Interment will be at Chapel Hill Gardens West in Oakbrook Terrace.
