Death Notices: Robert Noonan, Louise Ostergren, Catherine Meyer

Mr. Noonan and Mrs. Ostergren were Elmhurst residents, Mrs. Meyer taught at York High School.

Robert Noonan

Robert L. Noonan, a resident of Elmhurst for more than 50 years, has died. Mr. Noonan was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He worked in the metal-working industry and founded Noonan Machine Co. in 1960.

He was a director at the former Elmhurst National Bank and director of Old Kent Bank before his retirement in 1993. He also was an avid tennis player well into his 70s.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanne, of 57 years; his children, Donna, Nancy, Joanne and William; and four grandchildren.

Visitation was held Wednesday, and continues from 8 a.m. until the time of funeral at 9 a.m. Thursday, July 25, at Gibbons Funeral Home, 134 S. York Road in Elmhurst. A Mass of Christian burial will be said at 9:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 134 Arthur St., Elmhurst.

Louise R. Ostergren (nee Dyrkacz), 97, of Elmhurst, died July 19. Services were held Tuesday, July 23, in Chicago.

Mrs. Ostergren was preceded in death by her husband, Howard. She is survived by her children, Patricia, Judith, Robert, James, Terri and Lynette; 15 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Catherine Meyer

Catherine Leinen Meyer, 90, died peacefully at home in Chicago June 13. A lifelong pianist, she taught hearing-impaired students at York High School in Elmhurst and Hinsdale South High School in Darien. She will be remembered for her commitment to enriching the lives of people with special needs, including her daughter, Mary Elizabeth.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob. She is survived by her daughters, Cathy and Mary Elizabeth, and grandson Matthew.

A Mass and memorial service will be celebrated at noon Saturday, July 27, at Montgomery Place, 5550 South Shore Drive, Chicago.
