John McCarthy

John P. McCarthy, 51, of Lombard died Sept. 30 at Good Samaritan Hospital. He grew up in Elmhurst and graduated from York High School in 1980. He was an assistant leader for Boy Scout Troop 202, and worked as a machinist for more than 25 years.

He is survived by his wife, Cynthia; his children, Zachary and Brittany; his mother, Nancy; his siblings; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation is from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 4, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 350 E. Madison, Lombard.

Mary Peters

Mary "Betty" Peters (nee Phillips), 85, of Elmhurst, died Sept. 27. She was involved with Boy Scouts for more than 20 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David, and her son, Robert. She is survived by her children, Aultrice, Christopher, Kenneth and Connie, her 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, at Ahlgrim Funeral Home, 567 S. Spring Road, Elmhurst. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 4, at Messiah Lutheran, 130 W. Butterfield Road, Elmhurst.

Sylvia Raucci

Sylvia J. Raucci, formerly of Elmhurst, died Sept. 29. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis. She is survived by her children, Jo Anne, Rosemarie and Michele, and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, at Pedersen Ryberg Mortuary, 435 N. York St., Elmhurst. A funeral Mass will be held at 9:45 a.m. Friday, Oct. 4, at Visitation Catholic Church, 779 S. York, Elmhurst.

Valerie Blain

Valerie M. Blain (nee Serafin), 92, of Elmhurst, has died. She was a former member of the Elmhurst Garden Club and Welcome Wagon.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank. She is survived by her children, Charlotte, Frank and Jeanne, and her seven grandchildren.

Services were held Monday at Immaculate Conception Church.
