Death Notices: Five Veterans and a Former Science Teacher at IC College Prep

Condolences to the families of these men and woman, who all had strong ties to the Elmhurst community.

Hans Beck, 86

Hans Clifford Beck, 86, of Elmhurst, died Jan. 7. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in Guam, New Zealand and Hawaii. He formerly lived in Wisconsin but moved to Elmhurst to be closer to his daughter and her family.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, in De Pere, Wisc.

Merton W. Hubert Jr., 88

Merton W. Hubert Jr., 88, of Elmhurst, has died. Mr. Hubert was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the Coast Guard.

Visitation and services were held at Ahlgrim Funeral Home and at Visitation Parish in Elmhurst.

Edward Alan Hunter, 66

Edward Alan Hunter, 66, formerly of Elmhurst, died Jan. 7. He attended York High School and, after a stint in the U.S. Army, married Dorothy Bell at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Elmhurst.

A memorial service was held Thursday, Jan. 10, in Northfield, Minn. Interment with military honors was in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.

Alexis B. Collins, 80

Alexis B. Collins, 80, served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a lifetime member of the Elmhurst Masonic Lodge and a member of St. Peters United Church of Christ in Elmhurst.

A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, in Tennessee.

John. W. "Jack" Falter, 76

John "Jack" Falter, 76, of Elmhurst, has died. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and an active member of the Elmhurst community.

Sister Philip Neri (Hilda) Saller, 84

Sister Philip Neri (Hilda) Saller, 84, died Jan. 6 in Fond du Lac, Wisc. She was a high school science teacher from 1952 to 1979, with IC College Prep (formerly Immaculate Conception High School) in Elmhurst being one of the schools at which she taught.

Visitation and services were held in Wisconsin.
