Dr. Robert Hammer

Dr. Robert J. Hammer, 87, died Oct. 25.

Dr. Hammer established his medical practice in Elmhurst, and was an emeritus member of the medical staffs at Elmhurst Memorial, Gottlieb Memorial, Alexian Brothers and Central DuPage hospitals. After retiring from medicine, he became a real estate broker for Inland Real Estate Network in Oak Brook.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a life-long member of American Legion Post 187. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn; his son, Steven; and his daughter, Cathleen Ann. He is survived by his children, Colleen and Blane, and his five grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28, at Salerno's Galewood Chapels, 1857 N. Harlem Ave., Chicago. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, at St. Giles Church, 1045 N. Columbian Ave., Oak Park.

Edith De Boer

Edith De Boer (nee Boerema), 94, formerly of Elmhurst, died Friday, Oct. 25. 

She is survived by her husband of 70 years, John; her children, John, Judy and Jim; her 10 grandchildren; and her 13 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28, at Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, at Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church, 149 W. Brush Hill.
