Great Win for Elmhurst College Football Oct. 22: 43-36 Over Millikin University

Elmhurst College Football

Elmhurst College was down 21 to 6 in the first half, but came out with a vengeance in the second half to intercept the football three times and score 37 points.

Final score: Elmhurst 43, Millikin 36.

I remember as Elmhurst took a commanding lead, I was in the endzone snapping photos before the end of the third quater, and Elmhurst was on the 2-yard line trying to put the football into the endzone. You could hear all the excitement, as Elmhurst had their backs turned to their fans and no one in site except the Millikin defense trying to keep them from scoring.

As the fourth quarter started, both teams took a break and headed to the other side of the field. Then, Scottie Williams scooted in for a two-yard run for the score. It was a very high-scoring fourth quarter for Elmhurst; they scored three touchdowns during that time span, with the game winner to Gabrys, a 14-yard pass from Joe Furco.

Scottie Williams had a busy day, with 30 carries for 238 yards, two touchdowns, and one receiving touchdown as well. Joe Furco had a consistent day with 14 of 24, 143 yards, three touchdowns, and had a good day of punting too, 3 of 109 yards, averaging 40 yards on his punts.

The crowd went away happy, that's for sure. I told a nearby fan whoever gets the ball last will win the game. Elmhurst scored the last touchdown with about 23 seconds left, so giving the ball back to Millikin with about 15 seconds is not a lot of time.

Elmhurst has a 4-3 record, and what an impressive game it was on Saturday. Who'd have THUNK it they would score 37 points in the second half to pull out the win.

A treat for the home crowd on a Saturday afternoon at Elmhurst College.
