Say Good-bye to Steamy Weather for Awhile

What a difference a day makes.

opened Tuesday, May 29, and what a perfect day it's been for kids who are newly freed from prison … er, rather, school.

The National Weather Service is reporting temperatures in Elmhurst hit the mid-80s Tuesday. While it's a veritable cold spell compared to the mid-90s of the past few days, by all standards it was a picture-perfect day.

Temperatures dipped into the 50s Tuesday night and a high of only 66 is predicted for Wednesday, but mostly sunny skies should make Wednesday quite pleasant.

Then, on Wednesday night, get ready for a real change as we say hello to the 40s again, followed by a Thursday high barely making it out of the 50s. Add to that a 60 percent chance of showers and Elmhurst's pools will most likely be empty. Rain continues on Friday, with a high of 61.

The weather looks better for the weekend—in fact Saturday and Sunday look darn near perfect—but that's too far off. We won't even go there.

Smalley Pool offers open swim time from noon to 8 p.m. every day through Aug. 12, except July 4 (noon to 6 p.m.). Swim lessons are held in the mornings.

opened Saturday, May 26, and generally offers open swim time from 12:30 to 9 p.m. daily, with lap and adult swim in the mornings.
