Step Right Up! It's Circus Time Once Again in Elmhurst

The Kelly Miller Circus is bringing its traveling show back to Elmhurst this Friday.

Kelly Miller Circus has been providing family entertainment since 1938—nearly three-quarters of a century. Shows will be held at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. Friday, rain or shine, on the Sandburg grounds, 345 E. St. Charles Road.

The Circus is in town and if caring area residents knew more about the cruel treatment of animals used by the circus, they'd think twice before welcoming it back.
Elephants used by Kelly Miller are leased from the Carson and Barnes Circus and spend most of their lives in chains and are routinely beaten with bullhooks (a rod with a sharp metal hook on the end). Carson & Barnes has paid almost $1,000 in fines to federal authorities for mishandling elephants and for injuries two elephants sustained when a trailer overturned. Out of public view, trainers inflict pain and fear to force animals into submission. No government agency monitors training sessions. For animals in circuses, there is varying degrees of punishment and deprivation. Kelly Miller Circus says, “We do not tolerate cruelty in the training of our animals………….”
They in fact do tolerate cruel training methods and use a bullhook to reinforce that training. KMC leases their elephants from their sister circus Carson & Barnes who owns Becky, Tracy and Lisa who tour with them. This is how Becky is trained behind closed doors so they can control her in when around the public. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iouGQD6lf6A With the internet at our fingertips we can no longer claim ignorance, not when you can see irrefutable proof of this circus animal cruelty. Shame on the Education Foundation for continuing to promote the circus as family entertainment.

I agree with you but I don't know if we as just citizen's can do anything to stop that practice. IRead More wish that each cyclist had to have a license, and that it was enforced by laws and police, on the bike so that people could report occurrences and have the person receive a ticket just like a person driving an auto. That would make sense.

A couple of years ago, Villa Park installed "State Law- must stop for pedestrians" signsRead More on the roadways where the Great Western and Prairie Paths cross. I saw a big increase in path users barreling across the streets with no regard for the stop signs on the path.

I was really hoping that the Elmhurst Police would sound in on this info-I do understand kids willRead More be kids, but if one of them is hurt, that adult driver will need to live with that for the rest of their life-so let's come up with a solution for both bicyclist and cars to be in harmony. I really think that a step up in enforcement in the bicycle laws would help-just like the drunk driving laws-believe me the bicycle laws are just as important.
