York boys cross country team wins the Richard Spring Invitational
The York boys cross country team sent two teams to Peoria on Saturday to compete in the Richard Spring Invitational and came home with a third and a first place trophy. The Richard Spring invitational is one of the largest cross country meets in the state and attracts many of the top teams from Illinois as well as surrounding states to compete on the state meet coarse at Detweiller Park in Peoria. This years meet had 70+ schools in attendance and in the boys varsity race there were over 60 schools competing.
The York varsity team, the #1 ranked team in 3A in Illinois, placed first in their race with a score of 93. The second place team was the Illinois 3A #2 team, O'Fallon with 172 points and third went to the Illinois 2A #2 team, Belvidere North with 184 points. York was paced by the top ten finishes of Kyle Mattes (6th), Alex Mimlitz (7th) and Chris May (8th).
In the Freshman/Sophomore race, York placed third behind O'Fallon with 68 points and Carl Sandburg with 82 points.
