Elmhurst American Legion Lays Torn and Tattered Flags to Rest Saturday

The ceremony is brief, but the flag disposal takes hours. Groups from all over the area collect hundreds of torn and tattered flags for the ceremony each year.
Flag Day commemorates June 14, 1777, when the U.S. approved the design for the first national flag.
