Saturday Expected to Be Sunny and Mild for Annual Prairie Path Cleanup

Volunteers are meeting at the Old Train Depot on York to volunteer.

While cleanup continues on Elmhurst streets after last week's storm, another planned cleanup will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 27.

Elmhurst Community Bike Task Force will lead the annual cleanup effort along the Elmhurst portion of the Illinois Prairie Path, from Spring Road east to Interstate 290. This all-volunteer effort is in its fifth  successful year, reflecting the community’s pride in its two multi-use trails, the other being the Salt Creek Greenway Trail.

Volunteers should come to the Old Train Depot, just east of York Road at the Prairie Path, at 9 a.m. for work area assignment. Volunteers will work rain or shine, but there is no rain—or even clouds—forecasted for Saturday and the high is expected to be 63 degrees. A pair of work gloves is recommended.

Parking is available in the municipal lot just south of the Depot, accessed off of Vallette Street. The cleanup is open to all ages, but children under 14 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

The trails are owned by DuPage County, which in turn contracts for maintenance with the many communities through which the trails travel. Elmhurst Park District is responsible for the Elmhurst portion and will provide the trash bags and arrange to have them picked up.
