Still Time to Get Involved in Next Weekend's Relay for Life at Berens Park

Relay is an experience not soon forgotten.

Elmhurst's Relay for Life is right around the corner, but it's not too late to get involved.

The Relay will begin at 6 p.m. Friday, June 7, at Berens Park, 493 N. Oaklawn, in Elmhurst, and it will go until 6 a.m. Saturday, June 8. The event is a fund-raiser for the American Cancer Society, but it's so much more than that.
From the Relay for Life website:

"Relay for Life is a celebration of survivorship—an occasion to express hope and our shared goal to end a disease that threatens the lives of so many people we love."

The camaraderie and connections at Relay for Life are something not soon forgotten. While the teams walk the track, there will be events and memorials to honor survivors and remember those lost. Survivors are the guests of honor, along with their caregivers, families and friends.

Lots of fund-raisers have already been taking place throughout Elmhurst during the run-up to the Relay. Silverado Grill, Community Bank of Elmhurst and Fitz's Pub have all gotten into the action, hosting their own fund-raisers.

We even found an Elmhurst Relay for Life Garage Sale posted on our boards.

To participate in next weekend's Relay, participants must turn in a form and collect $100 in donations.

Fifty-four Elmhurst teams, 378 participants, already have raised more than $110,000. To sign up or donate, click here.

Money raised goes to the American Cancer Society to pay for free wigs, rides to and from treatment, consultations on cosmetology techniques and expert phone consultations around the clock.
