Elmhurst Boy Scout Troop 82 Pitches in to Help the Hungry

More than 30 scouts and leaders of Boy Scout Troop 82 in Elmhurst ventured to the Northern Illinois Food Bank in Geneva between Christmas and New Year's Eve to volunteer their time packing meals for distribution among the Food Bank’s network of partners. 

In all, 8,279 pounds of canned vegetables, enough for 6,898 meals, were packaged for distribution to more than 600 network partners including food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, and youth and senior feeding programs that serve more than 60,000 hungry neighbors each week. 

“This is a great way for the scouts to give back to the community as well as pick up some required service hours along the way," said Scott Glosner, Troop 82 community outreach director. "We really enjoyed it!”

The Northern Illinois Food Bank is a member of Feeding America, a nonprofit organization that engages the community in a commitment to feed our hungry neighbors across 13 counties. The NIFB accepts volunteer help throughout the year from individuals, families and groups, but the most help is needed January through April.
