The event, formerly the Brianna & Friends Walk to Talk, raises funds for the not-for-profit CSLD, its programs and offers financial assistance to families. One in 12 people has a communication disorder and 1 in 5 children receives services for speech and language disorders.

“The demand for services for speech and language disorders has never been higher,” said Pete DiCianni, event chairperson and author of Brianna’s Law that mandates insurance coverage for autism-related services in Illinois. DiCianni’s daughter Brianna was diagnosed with autism when she was a non-verbal three-year-old.  Now a lively, verbal 10-year old, Brianna attends regular 4th grade classes in District 205 thanks to many of the services she received at CSLD, according to DiCianni.

“We want to continue to raise more money for the Center and more for families in need, he said.”
