Art historian Jeff Mishur previews The Art Institute of Chicago exhibition “Picasso & Chicago,” which runs Feb. 20-May 12, 2013. This slide lecture provides insights into selected works from Picasso's long career within their historic context, including Chicago’s monumental sculpture in Daley Plaza. A child prodigy, Pablo Picasso turned away from his conservative schooling in Spain and joined the avant-garde in Paris. Throughout his long career Picasso pursued various styles – from realistic to abstract – while maintaining a consistent interest in diverse media and experimental processes.
