Elmhurst College Educator's Forum To Cover Illinois' Educator Licensure Changes

EDUCATOR’S FORUM ON JUNE 25 WILL COVER ILLINOIS’ EDUCATOR LICENSURE CHANGES AND THE CO-TEACHING MODEL IN THE CLASSROOM

              Elmhurst College will host a free Educator's Forum on Wednesday, June 25, to help educators better understand recent changes to Illinois’ licensure process, and also to discuss the effectiveness of the co-teaching model in the classroom.

Educators are invited to take part in one or both sessions during the Forum:

Session One: Understanding the Licensure Changes in Illinois Education

Intended for licensed educators looking to better understand the licensure changes occurring in the State of Illinois, this session will combine presentations with Q&A and is designed to be an informal guide to licensure changes and professional planning.

Session Two: The Effectiveness of the Co-Teaching Model

In this 90-minute interactive session, participants will learn about different co-teaching models and how co-teaching improves student achievement. Co-teaching models are effective for interdisciplinary classrooms, mentors and protégées, special educators, classroom teachers and paraprofessionals, providing a learning opportunity for a diverse audience of educators.

The Forum will be led by faculty members from Elmhurst College’s Department of Education, including:

·         Daniel Jares, Educator Licensure Officer and Lecturer

·         Debra Meyer, Professor and Director of Teacher Leadership

·         Lisa Burke, Associate Professor and Director of Special Education

·         Beverly Troiano, Assistant Professor and Coordinator for the English Language Learner Program

·         KC (Kathryn) Servilio, Assistant Professor of Special Education

The Educator’s Forum is free, and CEUs will be available on request. All attendees have the chance to win one of two $100 Amazon gift cards at the event. One gift card will be given at each session. Advance registration is required.

An optional information session on Elmhurst College’s graduate programs will be offered at noon during a box lunch at the Forum. Elmhurst College was one of the first institutions approved by the Illinois State Board of Education to offer the new Teacher Leader Endorsement.

The Teacher Leader Endorsement requires a master's degree, which can be earned with Elmhurst's Master of Education in Teacher Leadership. The 34-hour master's degree program meets the practical and professional needs of teachers.

Elmhurst College also offers state-approved endorsements in the areas of ESL, Bilingual, Special Education and Health Education. Endorsements may be earned while completing the M.Ed. in Teacher Leadership or as a non-degree seeking student. Classes meet in a hybrid format that combines on-campus and online coursework. Start times are available in the summer, fall or spring terms.
