CROP Hunger Walk

ELMHURST –  They will have sneakers and STOP signs and
smiles.  On Sunday, October 6, 2013,
individuals from Elmhurst and Bensenville will join together to “Help CROP Stop
Hunger” with the 30th annual CROP Walk sponsored by global
humanitarian agency Church World Service (CWS).

CROP stands for “Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty.”  The 3-mile/5K CROP Hunger Walk will begin at
2:00 p.m. at Elmhurst
College.  Registration begins at 1:30 p.m.  Step-off is at 2:00 p.m.

CROP Hunger Walks help
children and families worldwide -- and right here in the U.S. -- to have food for today,
while building for a better tomorrow.  Each

year more than 2.5 million CROP Walkers, volunteers, and sponsors put their

hearts and soles in motion, raising over $16 million per year to help stop

hunger around the world -- and in their own communities.  Last year the Elmhurst-Bensenville
walk raised over $10,000!
This includes walkers from Elmhurst College,
church groups, and York
High school students who walked
during school, the following Friday.

You can help!  Register to walk, support a walker/team or
make a general gift by logging into http://hunger.cwsglobal.org/site/TR?fr_id=17642&pg=entry.  Donations are tax deductible.

CROP Hunger Walks are unique in that proceeds
benefit both domestic and international poverty-reducing efforts.  Church World
Service, celebrating more than 60 years of service to people in need, is the
relief, development, and refugee assistance agency supported by 35 Protestant,
Orthodox, and Anglican denominations in the United States.

And did you know … up to a quarter of the money
donated to CROP Hunger Walk is returned to the community where it was raised to
help local soup kitchens and food pantries?

In what has become an
annual tradition in the thousands of communities that participate, an
interfaith, multi-cultural collection of CROP walkers encourage friends,
neighbors, colleagues, merchants and places of worship to donate to support
their participation.  Participants range
in age from
babies in strollers to joggers to seniors.
