Upcoming Local Events Focus on Sustainability

Here’s a look at upcoming sustainable events happening in or near Elmhurst:

This Saturday, September 28, the First Congregational United Church of Christ hosts a free electronics recycling event from 9 a.m. – noon in the church parking lot at 235 S. Kenilworth. A list of accepted items can be found at http://www.elmhurstucc.org/documents/recycling2013.pdf

After dropping off your electronics, take a little drive to Oak Park and River Forest for Green Living and Learning Tour. The tour features examples of sustainable living -- from entry-level efforts to expert installations, from basic to amazing. The tour consists of 18 sites, including 9 one-hour tours and 9 drop-in opportunities from noon – 5 p.m. For complete details, visit greencommunityconnections.org.

Elmhurst Cool Cities Coalition’s general membership meeting is Tuesday, Oct. 1, 7 p.m. at the library. Membership is open to the public. For more information, visit the Coalition’s website at elmhurstcoolcities.org.

International Walk and Bike to School Day is Wednesday, Oct. 9, sponsored by the National Center for Safe Routes to School. This international event promotes healthier habits, a cleaner environment and safety. For more information, visit walkbiketoschool.org.

National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is Saturday, October 26, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Elmhurst Police Department. Take-Back day provides a safe, convenient and responsible way to dispose of prescription drugs.
