Welcome to Elmhurst Art History

Suburbs often don’t have a reputation for being the most culturally or historically significant places to live. Especially in a suburb like Elmhurst, which is so close to one of the largest cities in the United States, residents often define where they live by their proximity to a large city. Even though we may live in Elmhurst, we travel to Chicago to get the cultural experiences we want, and while we brag about the history of Chicago, most of us aren’t interested in learning the history of Elmhurst. For example, those of us who are interested in art and live in Elmhurst often go into Chicago when we want to experience art. It’s no doubt that Chicago has a rich art culture and that its history is significant when it comes to art, but as Elmhurst citizens, we can also appreciate the art historical significances of our own town.

On Elmhurst Art History, one art history fact about our suburb will be posted each day at 6pm.

Special thank you to: Elmhurst Art Museum and Elmhurst Historical Museum.
