The Home of the Free, Because of the Brave

Elmhurst's 95th annual Memorial Day Parade and ceremony a moving tribute to all who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The rain held off for Elmhurst's 95th annual Memorial Day Parade, so local families could pay tribute to veterans of all our nation's wars who are no longer with us.

Following the parade, a ceremony at the Veteran's Memorial in Wilder Park included music from the Men of Spirito! and Anne Quigley, reading of the names of veterans who have died since last year, a rifle squad salute by the Elmhurst police and a cannon volley, placing of the wreaths of remembrance, introduction of military officers, speeches from Mayor Steve Morley and Chamber President John Quigley, a presentation to Grand Marshal and Army Lt. Col. Peter Farrell, and a musical recognition of each branch of the military, as well as a prayer and benediction. Master of ceremonies was William Shanklin.
