Start the Holiday Season with Santa and Song This Weekend
Take in some fun activities after a weekend of holiday shopping in Elmhurst.
It's Santa's busy season, and he's making stops in Elmhurst this weekend so be sure and pay him a visit. Or, if you're more of a sports fan, the Elmhurst YMCA is the place to be. Here are a few ideas for the weekend. We couldn't list them all here, so be sure to check out our calendar for more events. And, as always, tell us what we missed in the comments.
1. SING ALONG WITH SANTA
When/Where: 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at , 119 N. York St.
Why Go: Belt out holiday classics with friends, family, and Santa and Mrs. C. Bring your camera to this family friendly event. Food and drink is available for purchase. Also, while you're in City Centre, stop by one of three tents—at York and Adelaide, 190 N. York and Addison at Schiller Court—for a chance to win City Centre gift certificates during the city's .

2. BLACKHAWK'S ROADWATCH PARTY
When/Where: 5:30 p.m. Saturday, , 211 W. First St.
Why Go: Meet soloist Jim Cornelison, announcer Gene Honda, the Ice Crew and Tommy Hawk, then watch the Hawks play the St. Louis Blues at 8 p.m. The first 150 attendees receive an autograph from Stan Mikita and Tony Esposito; the first 500 get an Elmhurst Roadwatch rally towel.
Cost: $20 for adults, $15 for kids

3. A CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION WITH CHICAGO CHILDREN'S CHOIR
When/Where: 7:30 p.m. Saturday, , 315 E. St. Charles Road
Why Go: Experience the Emmy Award-winning Chicago Children’s Choir as their elite ensemble kicks off the Christmas Season in Bethel's acoustically perfect sanctuary. This performance is one of only three public appearances the choir gives in a year, and the only venue with less than 400 seats.
Cost: $20; $18 for seniors, $12 for students
4. LYRIC OPERA LECTURE: THE MAGIC FLUTE BY MOZART
When/Where: 2:30 p.m. Sunday, , 125 S. Prospect Ave.
Why Go: Lyric Opera of Chicago's 2011-12 season is underway. In Mozarts The Magic Flute, Prince Tamino is searching for the girl of his dreams. The mysterious Queen of the Night says her daughter’s the one—and just waiting to be rescued from the evil wizard, Sarastro. But it turns out he’s not the evil one at all.

5. JOY TO THE WORLD CONCERT
When/Where: 3 p.m. Sunday, Hammerschmidt Chapel at , 190 S. Prospect Ave.
Why Go: The and Orchestra concert features carols and Christmas songs in new arrangements with classical and jazz influences.
Cost: $25; $23 for seniors, $10 for students
