Dangerous Heat Expected Tuesday and Wednesday

Temperature will climb into the upper-90s, and expect a heat index of more than 100 in the afternoon.

It’s going to be dangerously hot out there the next two days (Tuesday and Wednesday), so you might want to curtail the outdoor activities, unless they involve being submerged up to your nose in a swimming pool.

The National Weather Service is predicting afternoon high temperatures around the area to reach the upper 90s. Combine that with heat index values, and it’s going to feel hotter than 100 degrees.

Don’t expect much relief when the sun sets either, as the temperature is expected to remain around 80 overnight.

“The combination of heat and humidity will create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible,” according to the NWS. “Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors.”

Cooler conditions are expected by Wednesday night and Thursday, as a cold front moves across the area. Thunderstorms are likely Wednesday night and Thursday night, and by Thursday night, we should see a low temperature of 52 degrees.

In the meantime, stay cool and stay safe. The Elmhurst Police Department lobby and the Elmhurst Public Library are official cooling centers during normal business hours.
