Cool Cars Under the Stars Canceled Tonight Because of the Heat

Heat advisory until Friday.

With temperatures expected in the triple digits, Elmhurst City Centre has announced it has canceled Cool Cars Under the Stars for tonight, Wednesday, July 20.

The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning that remains in effect until 4 a.m. Friday. Temperatures in DuPage County will climb to around 100 degrees today and again on Thursday, and heat index readings will peak between 110 and 120 degrees. Lows at night will dip only to the upper 70s.

There is a day-to-day chance of thunderstorms beginning Thursday and throughout the weekend.

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency also has declared July 20 an Air Pollution Action Day due to high pollution levels in the entire Chicago area.

For those without air conditioning, cooling centers in Elmhurst are located at the Elmhurst Public Library, 125 S. Prospect Ave., and at the Elmhurst Police Station, 125 E. Park St.
