And the Best Place to Get a Deli Sandwich in Elmhurst Is …

Reader responses are compelling enough to make anyone want to check this place out.

Last month, we asked readers .

Their answer? One word: .

"I don't think you can get better than Zenwich," commented Joe Calderone. "Both different and delicious."

Zenwich also racked up several five-star reviews with comments like, "The best, best, best!" And, "Best sandwiches, period."

It also got a few fan responses on the Elmhurst Patch facebook page.

So, what is Zenwich?

For those who haven't discovered this little gem at 416 N. York St., it's not really like any other sandwich joint in town. That may be why in November 2010 it drew the attention of ABC7's Steve Dolinsky, who featured Zenwich and its owner, Nate Nakasatian, on an edition of Hungry Hound.

It's basically Asian on a sandwich (with a buffalo chicken and turkey Zenwich thrown in for good measure). Signature Zenwiches, served on toasted ciabatta, include Mu Ping (grilled carmelized pork, shredded vegies, jalapeno and homemade sweet mayo), crab cake, chicken teriyaki, wasabi roast beef, and a slew of vegetarian options. Finish that off with a side of gingerslaw, wasabislaw, edamame, homemade chips or soup of the day, and it's a meal.

Coming in second was ("Food is always fresh and yummy. Great place for a lunch when you have time to sit and enjoy it," Mary Ann Kalis said.)

Rave reviews also went to , , and, ironically, Fresco's, which recently closed.

We also got a pretty good response to our poll question: "What is your favorite deli sandwich?"

Of the 65 people who took the poll, the No. 1 answer was corned beef on rye, with 15 votes (23 percent). Super-close second was Italian, with 14 votes (21 percent). Rounding out the top three was roast beef and provolone, with 9 percent of the votes.

Next week, we'll start a new poll. We'll be asking: What is your favorite "staycation" destination in Elmhurst.

I agree with you but I don't know if we as just citizen's can do anything to stop that practice. IRead More wish that each cyclist had to have a license, and that it was enforced by laws and police, on the bike so that people could report occurrences and have the person receive a ticket just like a person driving an auto. That would make sense.

A couple of years ago, Villa Park installed "State Law- must stop for pedestrians" signsRead More on the roadways where the Great Western and Prairie Paths cross. I saw a big increase in path users barreling across the streets with no regard for the stop signs on the path.

I was really hoping that the Elmhurst Police would sound in on this info-I do understand kids willRead More be kids, but if one of them is hurt, that adult driver will need to live with that for the rest of their life-so let's come up with a solution for both bicyclist and cars to be in harmony. I really think that a step up in enforcement in the bicycle laws would help-just like the drunk driving laws-believe me the bicycle laws are just as important.
