I Don't Purport To Be An Expert..

   If you have been following the  Zoning and Planning Commission/Zoning Board of Appeals hearings regarding the proposed parking deck on Addison you may have noticed words like "purported" and "expert". These words have been used to call into question public comments made by citizens of Elmhurst who have expressed their opposition to the zoning variations requested by the applicant.
  It is my opinion that the term "purported" and questioning whether a public commenter was an expert on parking or traffic is an ad hominem  ploy to discredit the citizens who have spoken against the zoning variances requested by the applicant.
  The board will make their decision in the future regarding this project and it is my hope that common sense will prevail. Does one need a Ph.D in traffic patterns or parking needs to really know if the six story structure will tower over their neighbors? Does one need to be a peer of Stephen Hawking to know that leaving no room for delivery trucks will seriously mess with the spacetime continuum of being blocked in by a delivery truck.
  Lets be honest, this whole six story business is a hot mess. I personally wonder why Commissioner Rose and Council Hill(Not Commissioner Hill) use terms like "purported" and "purported lay expert testimony"(oxymoron? but I am not a grammar expert). I did not notice any public speakers in favor of the six stories being questioned about their expertise, maybe I am wrong and welcome anyone pointing out if they were.
