An Appeal to my Fellow Elmhurst Citizens

Our City needs you to be vigilant.

I have been impressed with the level of interest in the upcoming mayoral contest. Whichever candidate wins on Tuesday will have won a hard fought race. Each candidate has contributed considerable funds to their own campaigns. After the dust has settled and the new mayor takes office their election committees can still receive contributions. I hope that we all keep a close eye on those contributions that come in after Tuesday by frequenting The Illinois Election Board website. Before the election, people and companies have to pick someone to support. After the election is won, it is a lot easier to allocate those donations to the winner. It is up to us to not lose interest in transparency in our local affairs.

Finally, the deadline to report the most recent campaign activity for the quarter is April 15th, this obviously comes after the election. April 15th is the last day to file, would it not be more transparent to post this before the election? I would love to see all the in-kind contributions, expenses, and contributions less than $1000 that have been made.
