How Do You Get a Concealed Carry License In Illinois?

No doubt some of you clicked on this article because you want to get a License to Carry and some of you clicked to see how easy it will be for some crazy person to start carrying a gun.

Well, the good news is that it will be very hard for criminals and crazy people to get a License. The bad news is that they may be carrying guns anyway.  Luckily, we now have more and more trained good citizens carrying to provide more protection.

The first thing to look at for getting a License to Carry is that you have to satisfy 16 hours of training.  Veterans and those with other prior training, like Concealed Carry Permits from other states or NRA courses or Hunter's Safety courses can receive credit towards the first 8 hours. (See below for more details on training exemptions)

Everyone who applies, with some small exceptions, will need to take the second 8 hours of training, which includes the lessons on the law and the shooting qualification.  It will be necessary to demonstrate safe gun handling and shooting ability to qualify.

Once the training is done, a very thorough background check is required in order to ensure that people with mental problems, criminals and those with drug / alcohol issues are weeded out.

The good news is that there has NOT been "blood in the streets" or a "Wild West" atmosphere with numerous shootouts in any of the other states that has concealed carry.  Add to that the requirement that Illinois has the most stringent training requirement and a second-to-none background check, and there is nothing to fear.... Unless you are a criminal.....
