If You Haven't Tried The Standard Restaurant and Bar in Elmhurst Yet, You're Too Late

Diners in Elmhurst have one less option. The Standard Restaurant and Bar, which opened in 2010, has closed. The closing was an abrupt end for patrons who had grown to enjoy its casual, modern atmosphere and food.

A reader contacted Elmhurst Patch after attempting to dine at the restaurant April 19, only to find it closed. "It would be a shame if it were closed permanently," the reader said by email.

Alas, it is, City Manager Jim Grabowski said Friday.

“I was sorry to see that they closed as well,” he said, adding he wasn’t sure why the business had closed.

“We hope the space is filled quickly,” he said.

A call to the business, which is located at 116 E. Schiller St., confirmed its phone has been disconnected, and its website is no longer available.

On Elmhurst Patch, the restaurant received four reviews and had a 4 1/2-star rating out of 5. 

Reader Julie M. gave the restaurant four stars and said: “We love the turkey dinner. They also serve other great comfort food like meat loaf dinner. Will be back soon.”

Chris Syre gave it five stars: "Most beautiful restaurant youll see in Elmhurst or Chicago. Food is always consistent and the service is great. Best martinis I've ever tasted, and the food is made from scratch daily. And the beautiful and friendly staff dosen't hurt either."

The Smiths gave it three stars, saying: “They seem to have a high turnover in wait staff and we used to love this place until they took their tasty Reubens off the menu. Will not be back.”

The Standard Restaurant and Bar served a basic American-style menu in a casual dining environment, according to its business listing on Elmhurst Patch.

Reviews were mixed on Yelp, with 37 reviewers giving the restaurant an average of three stars.
