Looking for Unconditional Love? Find it at Petco in Elmhurst This Weekend

About 300 furry friends were saved from certain death so they could find homes here.

The Elmhurst Petco store, at 199 Route 83, and the Schaumburg Petco, at 60 E. Golf Road, are hosting Mega-Adoption events to help find homes for 300 dogs that were scheduled to be put to death.

The dogs were rescued in rural Oklahoma and Arkansas. Thanks to the help and quick response of TAILS Humane Society, Animal Care League and the Petco Foundation, these dogs were able to escape death and were transferred to the Chicago area. They’re all spayed or neutered, healthy and awaiting loving homes.

Petco is hosting these Mega Adoption events to help provide relief for several overcrowded Oklahoma shelters and, most importantly, to find homes for these 200 dogs and puppies. Oklahoma partner organizations include Cherokee County Humane Society, Save Our Strays, Happy Paws, Muskogee Animal Shelter and Shana’s Last Chance Rescues.

Guests that attend can learn more about what these shelters do for the community, inquire about the best ways to care for a new pet and meet hundreds of adoptable dogs and puppies in need of homes.

The pets will be waiting to meet their new forever families from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 27 and 28.

To reach the Elmhurst store, call (630) 782-0648; the number for the Schaumburg store is (847) 884-8370.

We got our pooch (a best guess Terrier/Poodle combo) Bailey from the rescue group at the Petco in Bloomingdale. He is smart, attentive and very much wants to do what you say. Not that I'm bragging but he actually understands "English" when you say go get his toys by name like the ball, monkey, etc. he gets that toy! The point is you can get a great pooch at this rescue event!

Awwww! So sweet. If I didn't have a dog already, I'd be over there finding one!

Everyone needs to do their part! These pets are amazing. My rescue is a therapy dog, providing love to more than just me.

I agree with you but I don't know if we as just citizen's can do anything to stop that practice. IRead More wish that each cyclist had to have a license, and that it was enforced by laws and police, on the bike so that people could report occurrences and have the person receive a ticket just like a person driving an auto. That would make sense.

A couple of years ago, Villa Park installed "State Law- must stop for pedestrians" signsRead More on the roadways where the Great Western and Prairie Paths cross. I saw a big increase in path users barreling across the streets with no regard for the stop signs on the path.

I was really hoping that the Elmhurst Police would sound in on this info-I do understand kids willRead More be kids, but if one of them is hurt, that adult driver will need to live with that for the rest of their life-so let's come up with a solution for both bicyclist and cars to be in harmony. I really think that a step up in enforcement in the bicycle laws would help-just like the drunk driving laws-believe me the bicycle laws are just as important.
