Dominick's Employee Suspended on the Company's Last Day

Steve Yamamoto's YouTube parody, "Thanks Safeway," apparently didn't sit well with Dominick's bosses.

Nearly all of the 72 Chicago area Dominick's stores closed Saturday, Dec. 28. But that didn't prevent Glen Ellyn Dominick's store employee Steve Yamamoto from getting suspended from his job on Saturday.

What on earth could get him suspended from Dominick's on the last day of the store's existence? The YouTube video embedded in this article, that's what.

NBC Chicago is reporting that the parody on the store closings, titled "Thanks Safeway," was posted on Friday. The sarcastic sci-fi action scenes feature explosions, laser beam annihilations, fire breathing dragons and other apocalyptic-style special effects.

When Yamamoto arrived for his last day of work Saturday, he was suspended. He said he was "dumbfounded" that his attempt to make light of a bad situation would result in his suspension. But, he told NBC, "It was all worth it."

This should earn him the right to be the first new employee hired by Mariano's.

Awesome video and special effects. He will get employed outside of the grocery store biz and do very well for himself. Good luck Steve in the film business.

Well, he was right, the reason it's closing is all due to the big shots making more millions, and screw the 6,000 employees, most of who worked there for over 30 years, all these store takeovers and closings are done by these hedge fund A#$@$#les that made billions by closing all the stores in Canada, and now in Chicago, and getting some nice fat tax write offs. Good for you Steve, I hope karma comes to bite them in the a#@, and you will have a successful life.

I think people down in the southern states should boycott Safeway forever till the owners are in a bread line. How about a Hobby Lobby or Michaels in the store that was at Grand and York Roads. Good space, plenty of parking, great location and there isn't a hobby store near us.
