First Jewel, Now Whole Foods Luring Dominick's Customers with Discount

Consumers win in grocery wars. Still no word on what might become of Elmhurst Dominick's.

Shoppers who have not yet redeemed their old Dominick's Fresh Values cards at Jewel for a one-time discount of 10 percent off their purchase now have another option.

Shoppers can also turn in their Fresh Value card at Whole Foods stores to receive $15 off a $50 purchase. Whole Foods also has sent out a mailing with a coupon for the discount, the Sun-Times reported Monday

The Jewel offer expires at midnight Tuesday, Dec. 31. The Whole Foods offer is good until Feb. 15.

There is still no definitive word on what might go into the Elmhurst Dominick's location. Crain's reported earlier this month that it might be a Whole Foods, but that has not been confirmed. Monday's Sun-Times article said Whole Foods will take over six Dominick's stores—three in the suburbs—according to real estate experts. This also has not been confirmed by Whole Foods.

Currently, the Whole Foods stores closest to Elmhurst are in Hinsdale, at 500 E. Ogden Ave.; Willowbrook, at 201 63rd St.; and Wheaton, at 151 Rice Lake Square.

Whole Foods has started introducing lower priced merchandise to be more competitive with other stores, according to the Sun-Times.
